The Solar System is the large area that surrounds our sun, which includes 8 planets and many asteroid belts, many moons and multiple dwarf planets. All of these objects are gravitationally bound to the sun and are in a constant orbit with the closest planet being Mercury, then Venus, then Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and the farthest planet being Neptune. There are planets made of only rock, only gas, some of both or something totally different. At this point in time, Earth is said to be the only planet with the essentials of life (water, oxygen, vegetation, etc.) but we still have not completely searched every planet in our solar system and will not know for sure until then.
