A hurricane is a storm that forms over the ocean and spins in a circular fashion, usually with very strong winds, lots of downpour, and can cause extreme destruction. Hurricanes usually form over fairly warm ocean water, by picking up water vapor and forming the large storm. Scientists are still extensively studying how hurricanes form, but it is still not fully known exactly how they do. There are a few main factors that go into a hurricane forming: The water needs to be around 80 degrees fahrenheit or warmer, the depth of the water generally needs to be deeper than 50 meters, the air must be at least fairly humid, but the more humid the more likely it is for one to form. Hurricanes cannot form within 345 miles of the equator due to the fact that the wind patterns are not ideal for a hurricane to keep its rotation.
