This type of lava (Pahoehoe Lava) is located in the state of Hawaii, and is most well known for the fact that it can pour uphill as well as down and for the intricate patterned igneous rocks it creates. The strange thing about the lava is that if you were to pour it on a completely flat parking lot, it would slowly flow on the pavement until it reaches some sort of obstacle, which it would then flow over top of. For example: If the lava was flowing towards a curb, rather than hitting the curb then going to the side or just stopping, it would climb up the curb and continue to flow. One type of Pahoehoe lava is called Ropey Pahoehoe, this type of lava forms a rock that looks like ropes flowing in a straight direction, or in crossing patterns. The cause of this pattern is the slow cooling of the lava and the way it flows.
